Andromeda is also known as Lily of the Valley Bush and is an evergreen shrub with pendulous clusters of white or pink, bell-shaped flowers. It is native to the woodland regions of China, Japan and Taiwan and prefers similar growing conditions to its natural habitat – dappled shade, cool temperatures, and acidic soil. Mulching with pine needles in spring will conserve moisture and retain the acidity of the soil. Yellowing leaves indicate lack of nutrients. It has similar requirements to rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias.

Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds during early spring in a cold frame or in a very shaded part of the greenhouse. Lightly sow seeds on the surface and do not cover with soil. Seeds require constant moisture and temperatures between about 65 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Once true leaves appear, prick out into individual pots and allow then to continue growing in a shaded area until late spring, then plant out to their permanent position.

My Notes RE Bartering:

We are interested in bartering for organic or homegrown/homespun yarn, or other homegrown natural fibers that we can use for natural dying. We would also barter for honey, perennial fruit, nut, medicinal seeds or plants we don't have on hand. Other offers will also be considered.

You may scroll down to the Product Enquiry form to inquire about bartering with them and possibly setting up arrangements for a trade. All barters are facilitated privately between the parties involved. Barter at your own risk.
