Overview

Arugula is a delicious, spicy greens often used to brighten up salads. It’s also an amazing pizza topping. We love that this fast growing annual is high yielding and cold hardy. We grow our arugula year-round in the greenhouse with minimal effort as the spring plants reseeded itself in the summer and continues to produce prolifically in the fall.

Arugula – Eruca sativa

Life cycle: Annual / Ease of propagation: Easy / Hardiness zone: 6-9

Arugula is a delicious, spicy greens often used to brighten up salads. It’s also an amazing pizza topping. We love that this fast growing annual is high yielding and cold hardy. We grow our arugula year-round in the greenhouse with minimal effort as the spring plants reseeded itself in the summer and continues to produce prolifically in the fall.

Arugula matures in just 40 days (or if you want to eat young leaves, then only 20 days), providing a continuous supply of edible leaves throughout spring and summer. However, once they flower, the flavor will be stronger. Arugula flowers are also edible and can be harvested around May-August. Arugula takes to almost any soil, but grows best in well-drained soil. It likes cooler weather and shade in the summer. But once established, arugula is quite drought-tolerant.

Sowing Instructions

Direct sow seeds 1/8″ deep in early spring at 30-50 seeds per foot. For a continual supply, plant every 2-3 weeks until 1 month prior to first avg. frost date. If allowed to go to seed, arugula will reseed in the summer and be ready to harvest in the fall.

My Notes RE Bartering:

We are interested in bartering for organic or homegrown/homespun yarn, or other homegrown natural fibers that we can use for natural dying. We would also barter for honey, perennial fruit, nut, medicinal seeds or plants we don't have on hand. Other offers will also be considered.

You may scroll down to the Product Enquiry form to inquire about bartering with them and possibly setting up arrangements for a trade. All barters are facilitated privately between the parties involved. Barter at your own risk.
