DRAGONFRUIT PITAYA CUTTINGS
Dragonfruit is an amazing type of cacti that produces a large and delicious edible fruit. Although they can be grown from seed, the most common propagation method is through cuttings. In zones 10 and 11, it can be planted outside, but in areas where the temps reach freezing, these plants must be potted and overwintered inside. I’m offering these cuttings for $2.99 USD, but they will be more expensive to ship, so please take that into account.
Pitaya AKA Dragonfruit is a type of succulent cacti that can grow rather big. We’ve been growing ours for three seasons now and have them in large pots that we move inside during the winter. The cuttings that we offer are off of our plants, which we originally ordered from a Dragonfruit grower in the Miami Florida area.
Dragonfuit cuttings root rather easily on their own, and they prefer a rich soil with lots of organic material and good drainage. The plant will “climb” so most growers use a sturdy upright wooden pole in the center of the pot to train the growing plant up. Small roots can also shoot out of the cactus into the pole to help secure and support it.
If you’ve never had Dragonfruit before, they are a most peculiar, delicious, and healthy treat. The size of the ripe fruit is somewhat comparable to that of a grapefruit, although the shape is more elongated, like an egg. The outside of the fruit almost looks like extravagant scales of some oriental fish, and inside, they look almost similar to a kiwi but instead of green, they are either pure white or bright pink, with tons of tiny, edible, black seeds. The flesh of this fruit almost melts in your mouth, and we think it’s delicious.
The plants flower at night and are pollinated by nocturnal moths. Pruning will be necessary, so soon you should also have your own cuttings.
One cutting per order. Please note increased shipping cost for this item, due to the weight and size.
You may scroll down to the Product Enquiry form to inquire about bartering with them and possibly setting up arrangements for a trade. All barters are facilitated privately between the parties involved. Barter at your own risk.
Shipping To These Countries
At the moment, we will be focusing on shipments within the continental United States only. There are many customs and import laws for many things, and seed shipments are some of the ones that can be tricky to navigate at times.
We will do our best to get all orders processed and shipped within a week from the order date, especially since we know how it is to eagerly wait for a package.
Returns & Exchanges
In the event of a unsatisfactory or damaged shipment, we will work with our customers to achieve the best outcome possible. While we do not accept cancellations or returns, we do want you to be happy with your purchase.
We strive to produce only the highest quality of items and expect them to meet or exceed your expectations. If, however, for some reason our item falls short, we will consider replacing the item free of charge and reshipping the item to you.
