Hand Dyed Wool Yarn – Horsetail
Only 1 left in stock
Hand-dyed wool yarn in a muted, pale peach tone. This beautifully warm and subtle hue was created by dyeing wool yarn with horsetail (a plant) wild harvested from our local forest. Natural colors derived from organic dyes are one of a kind and can have slight variations in each skein.
For more information on how this was made and other great uses for horsetail, check out my steemit post: https://steemit.com/ecotrain/@sagescrub/3-amazing-uses-of-horsetail
Colors derived from plant-based dyes are one of kind, each one imbued with a natural, earth-tone hue. Plants can impart a wide range of surprising colors. Black hollyhock creates blueish greens. Yellow onion skins create a gorgeous marigold orange. Avocado pits make the softest pinks. It’s a joy to discover what each plant offers and I’m constantly exploring and experimenting with the wide spectrum of colors possible.
Aside from natural colors, I use only the best quality fiber. The yarn is 100% wool. The natural softness of wool fiber combined with a heavier weight makes this yarn a wonderful fiber for knitting wool garments and accessories. Each hank is 274 yards in length, sport weight, ideal for #3-5 knitting needles (6 sts).

Why natural dyes?
Natural dye is sustainable and is less harmful for the environment and our bodies. Modern synthetic dyes which are in most of our textiles and clothes are made of toxic chemicals. Studies have show that mass produced synthetic dyes pollute our waterways, harm wildlife, and may be linked to cancer.
Your support of makers and artisans reduces our reliance on mass consumerism, the biggest culprit of most of our environmental problems including extreme climate changes. Your support also helps to bring back lost traditions and skills such as natural dyeing. As we recover these traditions, we become more in tune with nature and with our community.
