Overview

Nigella Love in a Mist is beautiful and productive annual with blue, mauve, pink, purple, and white blooms shrouded in lacy, fern-like foliage. After flowers are spent, they produce balloon shaped seed pods that can be dried. Love in a Mist are lovely in bouquets as they add an airy feel. If cut often, they will produce continuous blooms from early summer through fall.

Both blossoms and seeds are edible. Nigella seeds (also known as black cumin) are said to taste like nutmeg and can be used raw or cooked as a condiment. However, the more common variety for culinary and medicinal use is Nigella sativa.

Nigella is quite easy to grow, is fast growing, and is self-sowing. It’s not particular about soil and prefers a sunny location.

Sowing Instructions

Direct seed in early spring when soil temperatures reach 60°F (16°C). Fall sow where winters are mild. Cover lightly with soil. If transplanting, sow 4-6 weeks before last frost then plant out after danger of frost has past. Nigella does not like transplanting.

My Notes RE Bartering:

We are interested in bartering for organic or homegrown/homespun yarn, or other homegrown natural fibers that we can use for natural dying. We would also barter for honey, perennial fruit, nut, medicinal seeds or plants we don't have on hand. Other offers will also be considered.

You may scroll down to the Product Enquiry form to inquire about bartering with them and possibly setting up arrangements for a trade. All barters are facilitated privately between the parties involved. Barter at your own risk.
