Overview

Teasel grows leaves in a rosette shape its first year and then shoots prickly flower stalks the second year. The flower itself is also very prickly. Teasel gets its name from the flower heads which were used as cards to tease cloth and fibers and for fleecing. You will need gloves to deal with Teasel if you let it go to flower. If you only want the Teasel root, it is harvested at the end of the first year before it flowers. We have abundant Teasel growing along roadsides and on edges of fields here and are glad to share the seeds with those who don’t.

Teasel root can be used to help combat Lyme disease in some individuals. Teasel root helps to pull the Lyme bacteria out of the body. It works very well for many individuals but not for others. The root is harvested from the first year plants and tinctured. Ironically Lyme bacteria assists deer in stimulating new antler growth, but they are not as helpful to humans.

Teasel root is used to treat trauma to the joints and muscles as well as a tonic for the liver.

Teasel flowers can be dried and used in dry flower arrangements; recommend harvesting when they are green and well before they are going to seed.

“It turns out that Teasel is a powerful remedy for Lyme disease. For the last two years I have seen it cure five out of five cases of Lyme disease, either based on the blood tests or the persons own experience of the disease. Four of those were cases where medical tests showed clear or partial evidence of Lyme disease. One did not show up on any of the tests and may have been something else.”
– Matthew Wood, The Book of Herbal Wisdom

Side Note: If you are a Lyme sufferer or interested in learning more remedies and preventative measures for Lyme, beyond Teasel: Healing Lyme by Stephen Harrod Buhner is another recommended read. More info here: http://buhnerhealinglyme.com/the-protocols/

My Notes RE Bartering:

We are interested in bartering for organic or homegrown/homespun yarn, or other homegrown natural fibers that we can use for natural dying. We would also barter for honey, perennial fruit, nut, medicinal seeds or plants we don't have on hand. Other offers will also be considered.

You may scroll down to the Product Enquiry form to inquire about bartering with them and possibly setting up arrangements for a trade. All barters are facilitated privately between the parties involved. Barter at your own risk.
