Wecome to my little shop, the place where I offer the creations of my mind.
I have always considered myself a jack of many arts, master of none, for my interests are many and I am not content to play with only one medium.
From bird houses to painted rocks, home decor to clothing, purses and placemats, aprons and tea towels, colouring books, colouring pages, and more, I invite you to browse my wares, you just might find what you are looking for right here.
I love colour, it sets my blood to tingling. Colour draws me in, captivates me. Whether it be paint, fabric or thread, it whets my appetite and the urge to create burns like a fire within.
I paint, sew, build, mold, draw, design and do needlework.... it is for this reason my arts will always be unique; it is for this reason, you will find the shelves of Thistleworks Designs filled with an eclectic mix of offerings.
How Its Made
To tell you how it's made, here, would be leaving out many details due to the variety of items I offer; fine details will be listed under each item's description.
Vintage or recycled materials:
Vintage fabrics, laces and buttons often make their way into my sewn creations, while some items like my bird houses may be made from vintage or recycled parts.
When dyeing my own fabric for my creations, I only use natural sources such as flowers, barks, berries, vegetables, spices, coffee and tea. No two dyed pieces will ever turn out the same. As a mordant, I mostly use salt or vinegar.
When I need to purchase my supplies, as much as possible I try to use sustainably derived products and to purchase supplies from other homesteaders across Canada. However, many of my supplies have been in my possession for many years and I cannot guarantee how and from where they were derived since it was prior to the date when sustainability and eco friendly products were more readily available and thought of. I will however, not discard these products to fill our landfills, and so, you can rest assured, I strive to use these vintage, upcycled or salvaged materials as often as possible, and I will disclose this information in each individual listing.
Wood and Rocks:
Wood pieces such as hangers for the wall hangings are sourced from our own property, and any rocks for my rock painting are also usually sourced right here on our land, but I have been given some by friends to use.
Cottons and linens make up the majority of the sewn items, but synthetics I have on hand will often make their way into the work.
Painting and Sealing Mediums:
Painted items are either acrylic, water-colour, or coloured pencils and for outdoor use they will have been sealed with an outdoor grade varathane. Any willow furniture will have been sealed with linseed oil.
While I have tried to disclose all my sources and resources, as much as possible, I try to be a custodian of the earth, but at times this is not always possible. Nails, tacks, beads, zippers, clasps, threads, etc., I try but am not always successful in obtaining such items sustainably, which I am sure you understand. If any of this deters you at all, my sincerest apologies, but I do hope you appreciate the efforts made in all ways, and I do thank you for being here.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you ship internationally?
I am willing to ship internationally. You will need to contact me with your address so I can provide you with a more accurate shipping cost, and then I will set up a separate listing for you to make the purchase.
Do you offer custom orders?
At this time, no I do not take custom orders unless specified in the listing. I am always open to suggestions though, which may make their way to my shelves. Please check back often.
How are your items shipped?
Shipping is normally through Canada Post since we have limited choices leaving from our vicinity.
I will always attempt to find the best shipping rates, and I recommend you contact me prior to ordering with your postal/zip code and I can give you a proper quote.
Please note, Canada Post does not offer tracking numbers on international orders. This is beyond my control, but I am willing to provide an image of the mailing receipt with date thereon.
How long does it take to get an item?
Shipping times are subject to variation due to the postal service, method chosen, and destination.
I always endeavour to get the items out within a week of purchase (we don't live right in town so usually only get to the mail once a week).
Will I get a tracking number to be able to follow my purchase?
If you live in Canada, you can get a tracking number if it is shipped express. Unfortunately, Canada Post does not offer tracking for international orders.
Are your items made from sustainable materials?
Some items are indeed sourced from sustainable markets, like my gourds, wooden items, and rocks. But I cannot guarantee all my materials are sustainable since most have been in my possession for several to many years. Vintage fabrics, laces and buttons often make their way into my sewn creations, while some items like my bird houses may be embellished with vintage or recycled parts. Moving forward, I continue to try to source as many sustainable products as I can when I need to replenish my supplies.
Are your products vegan or cruelty free?
As a vegan, I can assure you the items I make myself are cruelty free, but I cannot guarantee all the materials I use were created with such care. Please see the question above regarding materials. Moving forward, I will be trying to source out as many vegan materials as I can when I need to replenish my supplies.
Shipping To These Countries
I am willing to ship internationally, I just ask that you contact me so I can provide you with a more accurate shipping cost.
Please read all shipping details carefully so you do not encounter any surprises.
Shipping times are subject to variation due to the postal service, method chosen, and destination. Once the item leaves my hand, I cannot guarantee exact delivery times.
Shipping shall be through Canada Post with expected delivery times varying for each country as administered by the carrier. I always try to use the least expensive option with decent delivery times, usually small parcel express post.
Alternatively, we do at the time of writing, have UPS, Purolator and FedEx as available options, however based on our location, costs would be even higher than through Canada Post and I don’t usually recommend any of them.
Please note, Canada Post does not offer tracking service internationally. The best I can offer is to email you a photo of the receipt indicating date mailed for your records.
I always endeavour to get purchases out within a week of purchase, excluding weekends (we don't live right in town so usually only get to the mail once a week).
Any customs and import taxes are the responsibility of the buyer. I am not responsible for any delays that incur due to customs.
Returns & Exchanges
I will gladly accept returns or exchanges.

*Once we come to a mutually satisfactory agreement, items must be shipped back within twenty-one (21) days of delivery.
*The Item(s) is not a custom order; these are non-returnable.
*All shipping costs for return/exchange are the responsibility of the buyer.
